At Talent International Institute, we believe in providing our students with real-world insights to complement their academic learning. As part of our ongoing commitment to delivering industry-relevant education, our NZ Diploma in Construction students had the incredible opportunity to learn directly from Paul Kearns, Construction Manager at Platform Construction, our sister company.
During his session, Paul shared his extensive knowledge of the local construction industry, offering students a detailed look into the exciting projects that Platform Construction has completed and is currently working on. This hands-on learning experience is an integral part of our programme, designed to equip our students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their careers.
The chance to learn directly from industry leaders like Paul not only enriches our students' educational journey but also provides them with valuable insights into the New Zealand construction sector that can’t be gained from textbooks alone.
Students eagerly anticipate future site visits to Platform Construction projects, guided by Paul.
Additionally, this week, students were briefed via MS Teams by Pierre van der Merwe (Digital Engineering Technician | Engineering Solutions at Fulton Hogan Ltd) on his daily use of BIM (Building Information Modelling), including demonstrations on:
Initiating a BIM ecosystem
Managing incoming new designs
Conducting 'clash detection' for designs through BIM
Ensuring new designs such as Stormwater, Wastewater, Electricity, Comms, etc., do not intersect before installation
Clash reporting
Resolving design issues
Resubmitting updated designs
Repeating the tests
