Councillor Tyla Harrison-Hunt visited TII’s Alternative Education programme called Pumanawa on 20 May 2024. Tyla is the Councillor for the Riccarton Ward and holds the Multicultural Portfolio and Youth Portfolio lead at the Christchurch City Council.
Tyla shared some of his life story with our learners and encouraged them to explore their interests and keep focused on their goals in life. He also shared his love for sport and business, social equity and helping youth grow to be successful in life.
Pumanawa has also been invited by Tyla to visit his chambers at the council and we’re also looking at inviting him to play a bit of basketball with our learners.
TII is thankful to have the support of several valued stakeholders, including Councillor Tyla and was thankful for the time Tyla gave up in his busy day to encourage our young learners.
The visit ended with us all enjoying some kai time together.
