This iconic building, over 100 years old and a category 1 historic site, suffered significant damage during the 2011 earthquake, proving an excellent case study for our students.

Throughout the visit, students not only gained valuable insights into the intricacies of preserving historical buildings but also observed the critical importance of adhering to health and safety practices. They also learned about the careful planning and precise execution required to maintain the building's historical integrity, while ensuring that modern construction techniques protect and preserve the original architecture without compromising its heritage value.
TII would like to extend our sincere thanks to Mr. David Barillaro, Southbase's Site Manager, for providing our students with this opportunity to witness and learn from this remarkable restoration project that blends tradition with modern compliance and safety practices.
Today’s visit is part of our journey to ‘bring the classroom out to the build site’ and is something our construction and QS students really enjoy.
